Angie’s List sure knows how to treat its employees!
The company rewards top performers each quarter with a fun, daylong excursion. I’ve been lucky enough to make some of those trips in the past year – we went to a horse ranch in Brown County, rode rides at Kings Island and even cruised on a private boat around a lake in Monticello. At the end of the year, Angie’s List goes all out and takes the top 10 percent of the company on a big vacation.
The company recently flew more than 40 employees and their guests to New Orleans on a private jet to celebrate another great year. We spent four nights in one of the best places in the world. Most of us had never been, so it was a real treat to tour the historic city by day and party by night. We did a cocktail walking tour and learned all about the city’s world famous drinks and drinking holes. We also took a fascinating airboat tour through the bayou. Our guide, a bayou native with no front teeth, fed alligators off the side of the boat as he taught us about the Louisiana wildlife.
Our hotel, The Royal Sonesta in the French Quarter, put us smack-dab in the middle of the Bourbon Street madness, and Angie’s List treated us to wonderful dinners each evening, allowing us to sample all the true New Orleans cuisine. I couldn’t have asked for more.
We even brought a taste of New Orleans home with us. The Blue House celebrated our own version of “Fat Tuesday” this morning. We fried some authentic beignets — coated in powder sugar — and brewed a batch of Café Du Monde coffee. Le plus grand Mardi Gras!
