Autumn brings corn mazes and caramel apples

Caramel appleI truly enjoy this time of year. Some may lament at summer’s passing, but I’m fine with saying ‘goodbye’ to 90-degree weather and Saturdays spent indoors with the shades drawn. It’s just too hot. And, as I glance down at my decidedly pale legs, I’m reminded that the sun and I aren’t BFFs. I’ve spent the past three months dodging its cancer-causing rays and wondering how people can tolerate living in the tropics! But as my corner of the world slowly starts to tilt and the sun becomes “less hot,” I find my weekends are quickly filling up with outdoor activities. Grudge Match: Bears win over Colts is reason to gloat

I’m typically not a vengeful person. Go ahead, laugh all you want at my collection of baseball cards, old video games and “He-Man” DVDs. I promise I won’t get angry or concoct an exacting scheme to make you rue the day you were born.

But I have to admit, even at the risk of becoming the target of my Angie’s List co-workers’ wrath, I thoroughly enjoyed watching the Indianapolis Colts lose their first-ever regular-season game at Lucas Oil Stadium Sunday night. Life on the List is ever-changing

I don’t know about your job, but I love mine. The people are great, the job is demanding and rewarding, and the atmosphere is unlike anything I’ve experienced anywhere else.

Our recent Soapbox Derby (click here to watch the video) is a great example of this unique atmosphere. It’s an annual event at the List, and we’ve blogged about it before. It’s a great event filled with food:

Gunga galunga

Caddie ShackI’m rather excited today … that’s because I’m leaving work early to participate in the second annual Angie’s List golf outing. Even though I’ll have to make up the hours I’m spending on the course, it’s a still a great chance to get out of the office on a weekday and do something I truly love. Giddy Up

Angie\'s List Soapbox Derby team Big BrownThe Second Annual Angie’s List Soapbox Derby results are in. Nope, I didn’t win anything. I did, however, have a fantastic time. My team’s name was “Big Brown” in honor of the great racehorse. (I was hoping I’d get to say “Triple Crown Winner” in this post, but alas his reign is over this year).

They chose me as the lucky driver of the tiny, green garden wagon we bought with our $75 home-improvement store gift card. Being barely 5 feet tall, I fit the part of the jockey pretty well. To complete the look, I bought some little boy’s baseball pants, found a cheesy silk jacket at Goodwill and borrowed a riding helmet and crop from my co-workers. Continue reading ‘Giddy Up’

Time flies…

Yep, I’m a survivor. Today is my one-year anniversary working for Angie’s List. I know, I know: I’m the man. And after picking up my anniversary reward/gift, I’m convinced working at the List was the right choice. Here’s a pic of me showing off my newest toy:

The yard has gone to the dogs

As many know — because I tell EVERYONE — I am the proud owner of three Great Danes. While these dogs are rather peaceful and laid back in the house, they tend to be hellions outdoors, and their bathroom habits leave a lot to be desired. I’m sure they would be embarrassed if they knew I was discussing this sensitive topic, but it’s my reality.

Great Dane Silas Continue reading ‘The yard has gone to the dogs’
