At Angie’s List, we work hard, but we play hard, too, with our soap box derby right before Memorial Day weekend, and an annual Dunk Tank event on Labor Day weekend.
Last week, Angie’s List employees got to nominate coworkers to go in the dunk tank. A list was compiled, and all week long, we voted for our favorites. But there was a catch — each vote cost $1. All the money goes to the Handy Helpers, a charity organization at Angie’s List that works with other organizations and schools in the neighborhood.
So, our fun is for a good cause. But the week leading up to the dunk tank can get interesting, with dunk-tank-related e-mails filling our inboxes, full of promises made on one condition — that we vote for <insert an Angie’s List employee’s name here.>
We had a few candidates in the publication department. JD volunteered to wear a costume in the dunk tank if he was chosen. Although Mike and Matthew made no such promises, they did their part to entertain us as they argued back and forth on why the other should be the one to get dunked.
As it turned out, those promises and arguments weren’t needed — no magazine staffers were dunked on Friday. I’m not sure if all those e-mailed promises came true, but our votes — and our heckling — were for a good cause.
